My Workspace…and some Christmas:)

Even though I am so beyond appreciative to be where we are at right now in this home makeover process, there are still a few things that bug.  The biggest thing right now is my home office.  Or should I call it the storage room/tool room/office.  Exactly.  I just thought I’d show you where I have been blogging from these past couple of days:)

Don’t hurt yourself looking for the desk..there isn’t one.  See the computer on the ground there, yep…that one.  She’s up and running praise the Lord, but I about get carpal tunnel typing on the floor.  The kids love it though!

There’s a close-up of her, so neat and tidy I can hardly stand it!

So, my sister-in-law called me last week and said that she would love to be a blessing to us this holiday season (which she already/always is!) but that I could pick a day for her to take the kiddos.  Oh yippie skippie.  I can’t quite remember the last time I got to be at my house without my kids.  Love em to death, but lots more gets accomplished when they aren’t around.  So I took her up on it today.  My goal…the office.  I must warn you, to you it may not look like much got done…but to me, some mountains were moved!  And I had a little more fun playing decorating:)

Oh my goodness there is carpet!!!!  Still no desk, but carpet:)

See that little cutie in the back, the seafoam green one??  I got that from Ryan’s grandma and can’t wait to see what a slip will do for her:)

So, no worries…this is NOT the makeover blog on my office.  I actually have some fun ideas for her, and my desk…so check back in a year and it might be done:)  Or hopefully sooner!!  But here’s a few more pics of Christmas to leave you with.  I keep tweaking, and tweaking and tweaking some more:)

Loving the vintage sheet music, adds a little country Christmas feel!

I added a few spruce tips from my shrub outside to spice up the presents a bit:)

And lastly, while trying not to give away too much of the kitchen:)

p.s. No matter how far I stretched I couldn’t get away from those shiny bulbs, so yes…I know I’m in there.  Trust me, for your sake it’s good you can’t see any closer:)

Merry Christmas!!

Makeover Madness…The Bathroom!!

It’s here, the first makeover I’ve had in 6 months!!  Wow, such a journey!! I must admit, I just put some of the finishing touches on 10 minutes before I shot the picture, so I”m not going to promise you that it still isn’t going to change:)  I need to sit with it for awhile to see if I really like it, weird…I know.

Back to the ever so colorful “before” pictures of this same bathroom!!

Before

and after…

Before…

I know…why did I touch it right?? :)

And after…

and a few extra details….

Actually copied this little cutie from my sister-in-law, thanks Nicolle!  I had gotten this tray from Walmart on clearance for $2.50 and didn’t know what to do with it until I went to her house and saw it on her vanity…cute!!

These little apothecaries work great for a bathroom, and you can change them out seasonally too!  Keep your eyes open at Goodwill for these guys, usually you can find them from $1.00-$400!!  A steal:)

Another fun holiday tip…take the glass out of a photo frame and add an ornament instead:)  But don’t throw away the glass, you may want it in the future!

I was showing Ry this post before I published it and he said, you have to show them the sit down shower!  I usually don’t ever show anyone my showers because I am not the best “shower cleaner”  but to appease him I will show you his pride and joy, his sit down shower:)

So what did we do to this space?  Well if you can tell from the before pictures it was actually a lot larger before than after.  They used to have the laundry in the bath as well, and since you all know my deep dark secrets of “unorganization” I CANNOT have my laundry in with my guest bath.  If you know what I mean:)  So, we took that out and moved it upstairs into our bedroom.  We brought in the vanity wall and toilet wall about 2 feet each to expand our entry and eat-in kitchen, and then moved the shower to the opposite wall.  We did actually bump the shower into our office about a foot and a half to keep the bathroom a little less congested, and to give Ryan the dream of a chair in his shower..haha.  Oh the little things:)

The budget for this room??  Well it’s kinda hard to say, but I will tell you what we spent on some of the bigger items.  We found this vanity (mirror included–that may someday get traded out for a little more glitsy something or other:) for $250 at the Home Depot.  Considering it had a granite top and a drop down sink, I was pretty excited!  We did have to spend an extra $100 on the faucet.  We spent around $200?? on the shower, and about $150 on the toilet.  As for the accesories, I got the majority of them at Target for about $50 and the rest of the decor was me rummaging through the numerous boxes that are still scattering our office of our old home decor.

We still need to hang some sort of window treatment as my mom gets a bit nervous to hop out of the shower right in front of the window:)  I”m seeing maybe a bamboo shade in here to bring in a little more warmth without covering up the light.

The fact that we did not have to pay a plumber, painter, and handyman…HUGE!!  Good job Ryan and a little pat on the back for myself:)  hehe.  I did paint, hang the mirror and accessories, the girls gotta do something:)

So I hope this first makeover didn’t disappoint.  I can’t promise the rest of the areas will be as finished off as this one is, bathrooms kinda finish themselves if you know what I mean!  I am super excited to announce that our counter tops just arrived at Menards today and we  will hopefully be putting them in this weekend!!  Yes, it has been 6 long month without a kitchen sink, I will be one happy girl very very soon!! :)

Happy Friday everyone!

Back in the Saddle Again…..

I’ve gotten asked if I am done blogging…asked when I’m coming back…asked if the house is livable….asked if I’m insane:)  Well….kinda.  So here’s the blog to clear it all up.  No, I’m not done blogging, I’m coming back tonight, the house is livable and yes…I am a little insane!!

The fact is is that it was just a little too much for me…and if you lived in my surroundings the last 6 months you’d understand.  I’m sure most of you already to understand.  But, I needed to take a break for my sanity.  It was just too much trying to keep up with the blogging world while  diy-ing our WHOLE house, being a mom, wife, friend, etc etc…I’m sorry I left you all hanging, but I’m happy to say that I’m back, and I’m back with a lot of material!!

I must admit though, once leaving the blogging world I have gotten out of the blogging mind, weird, I know.  I thought where in the world do I even start???  There is so much to talk about but yet so much unfinished!!  So tonight I thought I’d just tease you a bit.  Mean…I know.  2 reasons.

1.)  I have completely switched my Christmas decor this year and want to show you what I’ve done before it is March, and…

2.)  My house is way way way further than the last I’ve showed you, but I still need a little bit of time to pull a few  more things together.

So, you will get little “glimpses” in the background of the final reveal that I intend on doing again on Makeover Madness Fridays…you know, keep you coming back!

Again, I know…I’m so mean, and you’d think I’d be doing this to get something from you or someone else by you checking me out but it’s not true…I get nothing, except the fun encouraging comments I read and hear about.  Keeps me going:)

First I’m going to show you some of my Christmas pictures from last year.  I love Christmas.  Yep, pretty much love.  Like it’s my favorite  holiday EVER!!  Not only is it my Saviors birthday, which I do try to keep at the top of my priorities, but also there are so many traditions, memories, and family time that come along with it.  And my mom did up Christmas!!  And she still does!  Her house is covered from top to bottom and looks AMAZING!!  Talented lady.  So this girl tries to follow suite.  In our old house I loved the fun loving, playful red and green Christmas.  Here are some pics to prove it!

Sorry for the poor lighting!!

Our Charlie Brown Christmas trees we get from Ryan’s family land up North.  I’m kinda in love with them as well:)

Over the sink, the more balls the better!!:)

and..

some fun Christmas pillows in the entry

So that was the fun Christmas.  Maybe a little more exciting for the children:)  This year will all of my grays I really wanted to do more of a elegant, natural Christmas.  A little less flashy:)  Although I still do love the reds and greens!  Here’s a sneak peek of a little of what’s going on over here:)

The new color scheme…I”m loving the mercury glass this year!!

**Sidenote–The Christmas tree is from the dollar store and the pine cone is from Walmart, 97 cents.  Also the candle stick holders I bought at the end of last year at 75% off for $4!  Don’t underestimate your local dollar store and Walmart!!:)

A little more natural.  Another tip, Michaels runs all of their ribbon 70% off on black Friday.  That’s when I usually stock up.  Otherwise ribbon can throw a big kink (sp?) in your budget:)

Another Charlie Brown tree!  I bought 2 yards of Burlap to use as my tree skirt this year and am loving it, even though it’s mostly covered up by presents now.  Another disclaimer: This tree is so much prettier at night, not to talk it up at all:)

Does this piece look familiar??  Black turned gray.  Filled with my Goodwill white dishes.  Sparkled up with a little peace and twinkle lights, so soothing:)

Another close-up

A cozy little nook in the old entry!

The pitcher makes a triumphant return:)  And by the way, who put that runner on there without ironing it?? Lazy girl..I would never do such a thing:)

One thing I wanted to say about changing the whole theme of your Christmas decor.  I was lucky to have picked up quite a bit of things at the end of last season, I made the dollar store my friend…and I sold most of my red and green on our local on-line garage sale and made good money.  Money that I set aside to go this year after Christmas and add to my new decor:)

So that’s it for tonight.  I know, I bet some of you are a bit dissapointed that there weren’t any before and afters…but trust me.  THEY ARE COMING!!  And after looking at some of my last posts I truly realize just how much it has changed!! And I’m so excited to share it with you!!
