Sharing Our $200 DIY Cabin Pathway!

This has been a budget friendly project I have wanted to do for years now and this year it made it on the summer project to-do list

whoop whoop! Ryan and I sat down at the very beginning of summer and made a project list of what is the biggest priority and what isn't in as much of a hurry to get done in the nice weather months. This one made it the top of the list! We had a budget in plan and began to shop around at local places to find the best rock for our price range and how we could make it look the way we wanted it to with what we were willing to spend...

Happy to report we stayed within budget!! Which always an important step and a little happy dance when executed.

Here is the budget breakdown -

- $100 in Pavers

-$75 in Pea Gravel

$25 in Landscaping Fabric

equaling out to $200!

The sweat equity was alotttttt but the transformation is amazing and makes me oh so happy!

The Very Before

This was the state of the pathway/mini sidewalk from the garage to the cabin right when we bought it.

Hence the green, old landscaping and different door, the very beginning of this place.

Before

You can see a little bit better the what we called a pathway before the current state LOL. It is a small walkway from the garage to the cabin. Old stones embedded into the ground in the first area and then wooden planks in the second part.

Now let''s start the project

Once we had all of the supplies brought out the cabin, I started to lay out how I had imaged how the pathway would flow.

I knew I wanted it to flare out at the end towards the cabin but didn't know exactly how much I would want it to. I played around with it for a while and eventually got the exact measurements laid out.  I got these pavers from Menards but I'm sure you could find something similar at any large home improvement store!  We needed 60 pavers for this project.

As I finished getting the outline of the pathway set to be just right. My mother in law that helps us a few days a week (oh she is amazing and such a hard worker) She began digging up the old stones that we stuck into the ground. They actually came up a bit easier than was expected which was a happy thing!

Once us ladies got all of the old stones up and removed from the scene. Ryan came along with the tractor and dug up the hole in the line the blocks were laid in order to stay in permanently.

That step is a chore to say the very least and not for the faint of heart haha. It can be laughed about now but in the moment it was the hardest job...

Once all of the pavers were done and set in the ground, the laying of the landscaping fabric was the next step.

The one we had was from Menards but

This is a very similar one if you don't have a local Menards, that place is our second home if you haven't guest that by now LOL. That goes down pretty easily as you just need it as a base for the rock to go over the grass.

Last step is laying all of the pea rock down. We used 2 yards of pea gravel for this project.  We actually purchased 4 yards and ended up having so much leftover that we could use it for our driveway as well. Just give it your best estimate when trying to calculate the size of project you are doing.

After

Wow! look at that, who would of guessed that a new pathway would make such a difference and such a statement after all!

I firmly believe in landscaping as it accessorizes at home or cabin or any building. It makes it look more complete in my eyes!

You can tell I adjusted the flare towards the cabin just a little bit. I decided I liked the look of the sharp angle vs a more curved shape. it flows a little bit better that way.

P.S for those of you who are wondering because I know some of you will ask ;)

The exterior color of the cabin is called Toasted Poppyseed By Kilz Brand paints in a flat finish. It's a very dark grey and one of my favorite colors of all time.
