As the 4th is ever so quickly approaching, I came on here to share some of our family favorites things for this specific weekend along with some traditions we do every year as well!
Ryan and I host 4th of July weekend out at our cabin with Ryan's whole side of the family. A whopping group of 40 people of all ages! It is a fun get together to say the very least. Every one of us look forward to spending this time all together each year. We started doing this about 4 years ago the first summer we had the cabin. Everyone comes out and all camp here the whole weekend. The younger cousins still like to camp in tents out in the yard together but as the family has grown so much over the past couple of years, some go home for the sleeping part but come on back in the morning for breakfast and to start the day all together. We have all 3 meals all together. It is defiantly a high light of the year for all of us to be enjoying the sunshine, swimming and all being together continuing traditions all while creating new memories along the way!
One tradition we started about 2 years ago was a big 'Party Barge" float we call it! While the pontoon pulls the long train of people we attach anything that can be attached to float behind. Some swim along, some float or some ride in the pontoon. But everybody rides on this float!! We do a lap around the lake all together and it is so. much. fun!!!
The kids named it the sunset cruise and now it also has become tradition!
I'm sharing 4 of our favorite things for the 4th that are the most used during the holiday weekend with you next!
One of the biggest traditions that we do that weekend is we have a corn hole tournament! Everyone grabs a partner and away the tournament goes! We even have a home made trophy that the winning team gets to clam for that following year as the corn hole champions! It typically takes all afternoon as the participation count is high and the bracket takes its time. Rain or shine we have this tournament!
We made our own corn hole boards a few years ago but I found this set and thought it was so cool that it is a 2 came in one. Lightweight and easy to move around. Smart idea to keep the games going!
I'm sure almost everyone does this when they are at their cabin or celebrating something during the warm weather months but our whole family LOVES roasting marshmallows and have s'mores by the campfire at nighttime under the stars! No matter how warm it is outside we always have a fire going, mainly for the ambiance feel and to try to keep some bugs away.
This year I purchased this pack of 12 marshmallow roasters. Our old ones we had got so much love we needed to get a few new fresh ones. I liked at how adjustable they are to reach far enough without getting too close to the fire. Plus, they have the red rubber tips, which are easy to take off and clean if they get messy...
This is a new gadget that I came across recently is called Evapolar Portable Air Conditioner. This is going to make an appearnce this year and might be everyones favorite. It's a portable a/c unit that just runs off of a tank of water and 10 watts electricity. You can even use a power bank for it and have it in the tent! Which is exactly how I'm planning on using it for the kids! It can fun for up to 9 hours on a tank of water and uses technology from basalt rock, which took 20 years to figure out! What a genius invention for camping or summer holiday weekends spent outside.
A fan favorite water activity is Paddle Boarding! We had a firm non blowup on first and fell in love with it. But last year we thought we'd like to try an inflatable one, I was a little skeptical of a few things about them but those flew out the window when we found our actually how durable and nice they are. We since they would argue over who would get the nice paddle board... Earlier this week I found this one on Amazon for a stellar deal that could not be passed up, over half off! whoop whoop. This year we will have 3 to pick from which will be a blast to be able to have more people out at one. Plus how cute is this one, it totally caught my eye!
Our favorites
Everyone have a safe and happy 4th of July!!
