BUFFET — BEFORE & AFTER

I’ve been working on a mini makeover on our dining room these last couple months, and I’m hoping to do the full before and after reveal soon, but one of the pieces that I wanted to add to the dining room was a buffet.  I originally had my big hutch in here… but have since sold it at a Whimsy sale.  Although I liked it, it was a bit more country than I wanted to go.  It had served our house well, and … Continue Reading »

CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR – PART 2

As promised, I’m back to show you the rest of the house.  You saw some of the living room but I thought I’d show a bit more. This room actually is the hardest room for me since there is so much brown.  If it were up to me I probably would have done the whole house with wood floors with some nice big area rugs, but the hubs insists on carpet in the living room and bedrooms.  I get it, it’s comfy and … Continue Reading »

CHRISTMAS TOUR 2014…PART 1

Oh I’m finally getting my act together over here and got my house clean enough to snap a few photos, and really…in a bloggers reality, that means moving the “piles” from one spot to another, just out of view of the camera;)  Just so you all know we are human to and we really DO live in our houses.  No, they are never not always picture ready.  Shh…..don’t tell!:) So, this is the one time of year I start to get all sweaty and nervous … Continue Reading »

IKEA HACK–HEMNES CABINET & A GIVEAWAY

Oh my goodness I have been gone so long, have so much to show you, and so little time to do it.  So I thought I’d start with the one of the oldest projects that I have yet to show you…it’s an ikea cabinet for our bathroom.  If you remember waaaaay back when we gutted our upstairs bathroom we didn’t leave room for a closet.  Instead we had a little “nook” where I was going to find the perfect little armoire to fit … Continue Reading »

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER…MY FALL TOUR

Well I am a bit behind in blogland on showing my fall decor, although to my defense, I have had it up for awhile now.  After getting through another AMAZING whimsy week….I finally have time to clean my house take some photos! My favorite seasonal place to start decorating is always my mantle, although it can also be my hardest.  This is actually the second fall mantle I had after I found these AMAZING pumpkins that Target ingeniously came out with…and I knew they … Continue Reading »

IKEA HACK–BECKETT’S DRESSER

I know you all have seen Beckett’s tiny corner in our bedroom a few times now, but I thought I’d share his $35 dresser makeover I did. It’s called the RAST dresser from Ikea and I loved it because it came unfinished and more importantly, because it was only $35.  I knew I needed something super small scale since I didn’t have much room to work with, and I also wanted it to fit well with the stump table I finished by the … Continue Reading »

A LAUNDRY CLOSET MAKEOVER FOR UNDER $100

If you remember, a few months ago I was working on my “laundry closet.”  I wanted to get it done before Beckett came, knowing I was going to have to use it to store some of his clothes as well since he doesn’t have a closet.  Well, I didn’t get too far.  If you read this post you saw I got the washer and dryer stand looking a bit better……. and thats how it stayed for about another 4 months  until one day … Continue Reading »

MY LATEST PROJECT—AND THE BEST BEFORE AND AFTER PICS

I have been working with a friend over the last 2 years…I know, that sounds crazy when I type it, but yes…2 years, on a total cabin reno project.  The reasons it has taken so long have been many.  1.)  We had Jules within that time.  2.)  It was a COMPLETE gut/remodel job. 3.)  We did a lot of the work ourselves, and 4.)  It is their cabin, and they are busy as well, so it was easy to not always make first … Continue Reading »

A ROCKER FOR BABY

My sister-in-law had an old upholstered rocker that she was getting rid of and asked if I would be interested.  At first glance the rocker seemed like she needed lots of love, the pattern was out of date and the the fabric was starting to rip.  But, with a  little love I knew that the shape was great, the structure was solid, and it was very comfy.  Plus, it was on rockers which would be perfect for a babe, and the real selling … Continue Reading »

DIY WINDOW BOXES

For the last 2 years I have wanted to spruce up the outside of the guest house by adding some window boxes.  I initially was waiting for the hubby to offer to make me some…..but that didn’t happen.  Huge surprise.  So since I’ve become a little more comfortable with my air nailer and chop saw, who am I kidding, I”m in love with them, I decided to tackle the project myself.   I realized all it really was was a couple of 1x6s … Continue Reading »

I’VE BEEN FEATURED!! BETTER HOMES & GARDENS KITCHEN AND BATH

If you follow me on instagram @prvbsthirtyonegirl you saw some exciting news the other day. And many of you had questions as to if I knew about it, so I thought I’d share the story. Although I always thought it would be really fun to be in a magazine, I never thought it would happen.  I thought I’d have to pursue it, and really dive 100% into my blog and put in a lot of effort.  You see, in the blogging world you … Continue Reading »

A BATHROOM UPDATE

Well, I teased you about it some time ago, so I’ll finally show you what I’ve SLOWLY been working on in our upstairs bath.  I love wall treatments, and would love to snap my fingers and have them magically appear, but unfortunately that costs lost of money:)  So, to the saw I go.  I bought I think about 4 or 5 sheets of 1/4″ plywood to do this project, and at about $12 a sheet that comes to about $60 worth of wood, … Continue Reading »

KNOCK OFF ANTHROPOLOGIE PILLOWS

I was perusing Pinterest the other day looking for some inspiration and came across these little cuties…. source The only problem is that these little puppies will run you $148. I’m assuming that’s for both for, but the website is quite unclear on that.  Thankfully it does include the feather insert, but still…it’s ridiculous. So, I thought I’d try to recreate my own pillow like this.  I pinned it originally for a Whimsy Green idea, but loved it so much I may just … Continue Reading »

GETTING ANTSY–LAUNDRY ROOM MAKEOVER

This week, I about had it with the cold, but I’m sure that’s no new news for anyone.  But….it made me antsy to do a project.  I tried to get the hubs on board to no avail.  He told me the man cave is next, to which I simply replied, but that can’t happen til the weather warms up, let tackle something inside!:) Nope.  Didn’t budge. So, I pulled out the air nailer, compressor and hose and decided to work on a project … Continue Reading »

FINALLY….A PROJECT COMPLETE!!

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a house project on the blog, and this project has actually been done for awhile now.  But I’m going to let you in on a little secret for all of the people that think my house is spotless all the time.  Boy do I have you fooled.  I haven’t posted this blog for the last month cause that means that I would have to have every room upstairs cleaned AT THE SAME TIME!  No, I do not … Continue Reading »

CHALKBOARD CANVAS

The motivation to get stuff done around the house has slowed to a halt.  Not sure if it’s the weather, the weather, or the weather.  I’m pretty sure though that it’s the weather:)  Projects around here require scavenging almost every shed during the process, so getting the motivation to bundle up and head outside for everything I need just seems like too much work.  I have been working on a few projects for our Women’s Retreat coming up at church though and I’d … Continue Reading »

VALENTINE POUFS AND AN UPDATE

If you live in the midwest, you are in complete sympathy with how long of a winter this has been.  Not because of the length, but because of the cold!  I read that Minneapolis is considered the coldest large city in the country, even beating out Anchorage, Alaska this year.  Yep, that’s not an award I was hoping to win.  So, after taking down my Christmas decor I usually struggle with what to put out.  We can’t really jump from Christmas to Spring, … Continue Reading »

OUR FARMHOUSE–105 YEARS AGO

A couple of months ago I got an email from the sweet lady who owned this house before us.  In it she sent a picture of a postcard she had that had a picture of our house on it from…wait for it…the year 1909.  A whopping 105 years ago.  It was amazing to see that our house has been a home for people for so long, and fun to think about the changes this house has seen.  It’s actually quite amazing how similiar … Continue Reading »

A NEW KITCHEN FAUCET

A few weeks ago, before Christmas actually…which tells you how behind I am on my blog, I was grabbing a few things from the kitchen before heading out to a Christmas dinner.  Right before I was getting ready to leave I hear a sound no one wants to hear.  The sounds of gushing water.  You can only imagine me freaking out trying to figure out where it was coming from…since most of our pipes are in the ceiling, I was frantically looking up … Continue Reading »

OFFICE MAKEOVER

Well I promised you after the new year that I would show you my latest makeover at the farmhouse.  And this room has always been my nemesis.  It is the room that seems to always “collect” all the junk and leftovers that I can’t find a spot for.  During whimsy months it becomes an overflow of Whimsy and also holds all of my crafting messiness that needs a spot somewhere and inevitablly ends up there.  When we renovated we decided to do an … Continue Reading »
