Well I promised you after the new year that I would show you my latest makeover at the farmhouse.  And this room has always been my nemesis.  It is the room that seems to always “collect” all the junk and leftovers that I can’t find a spot for.  During whimsy months it becomes an overflow of Whimsy and also holds all of my crafting messiness that needs a spot somewhere and inevitablly ends up there.  When we renovated we decided to do an … Continue Reading »

I had fun giving Tates room a little love this Christmas, since I haven’t done much to it since I first decorated it.  I was given an old school desk that I was going to redo for a Whimsy sale that was sitting in the shed.  Tate saw it and begged me to put it in his room.  If you know his room, you know it’s about the size of a sardine box.  But the little bugger was persistent and so I finally … Continue Reading »

I think I had the most fun this year working on my bedroom for the Christmas home tour.  And I’m pretty sure it’s because since we moved in I have never been able to quite figure out/utilize all of the space.  I’ve been picking up pieces here and there and finally have enough furnishings to fill most of the area. Also, I love glitzy pretty Christmas, but it just doesn’t fit my house style well, so this was an opportunity to use the … Continue Reading »

I gave you a sneak peek before with this picture…. and promised I would show the rest soon.  Well, I’m finally getting around to it and hope if you haven’t decorated for Christmas yet you can find some inspiration.  But shame on you!:) The bad news about my Christmas decor is that I change my mind every year as to the feel I want.  The good news is, is that I think I found her Christmas identity once and for all.  I was … Continue Reading »

I love Christmas, always have.  I love the true meaning behind it, I love traditions, and I love the decorating.  It’s the one time of year that you can switch your whole house out and make it magical.  I loved when my momma did it as a kid, and I love doing it for my kids now.  So when I found out that our church did a Christmas tour of homes I was all over it.  The problem is, the first year I … Continue Reading »

The last couple of months I have been helping a friend of mine with a renovation they did.  The project actually started this summer when she told me they were transforming their screened in porch into a four seasons porch.  (They have an amazing spot on the lake by the way:) She asked if I would help her with some ideas and decorating, and since I like decorating (a little) and liked her (a lot) I said sure:) I’m just going to tell you … Continue Reading »

When Ry announces that he is going to go on a hunting trip for the weekend, my mind immediately starts racing.  I start thinking about what project I want to get done.  Quite honestly, its usually easiest to work on these projects when he is away.  1.) We can have cereal for every meal  2.) I don’t have to clean up the house 3.) I don’t have someone watching over my shoulder.  Ideal time:)  So the last trip he took I took full … Continue Reading »

Well, if you follow me on instagram @prvbsthirtyonegirl, many of you have noticed something a bit different in my kitchen.  And have asked about it.  Well, I’m FINALLY getting to put a blog up about the DIY subway tile backsplash I did on a whim a couple of weeks ago:)  I knew I wanted the classic subway tile ever since we moved here.  Honestly I wanted it in our last house as well, but that was a bit before my full fledge DIY … Continue Reading »

Every change of season I pull out my seasonal bins and start decorating there.  Inevitably there are always a few things that I no longer like or that have passed their prime.  So after I use what I have I go around each room and try to figure out a way to make (cheaply) the rest.  That and maybe a Home Goods run usually finish it off;) So this year since I started with some different pillows, my last year pillows no longer … Continue Reading »

Have you seen the new dipped furniture trend?? I think it acutally first caught my eye when it was in the clothing stores. I found my eye drawn to colorblock items like this.. source and before you know it I started seeing dipped furniture.  And I loved it! source It takes an ordinary piece of furniture and creates it into a one of a kind piece! Source Even if it’s just the feet of a chair. I especially love how this piece blended … Continue Reading »

It’s that time of year again…time for a change.  This past winter was a tough on in Minnesota.  It went on F.O.R.E.V.E.R.  I mean, I never thought it was going to end.  I swore to myself that I was not going to wish the summer away and I often wondered why I didn’t live some place warm like Arizona or California. And then comes September. And I just can’t help it.  Whatever I had told myself before goes flying out the window.  And … Continue Reading »

In the last post I left you hanging with the whole room reveal.  I feel like this dining room has been a bit of a menace ever since we moved in.  I have struggled with it for so long.  Part of the reason being that this whole room is just so long and narrow, and in the dining room I have 3 solid walls with nothing to break them up!  Usually there are windows, or a door, or something so you don’t have … Continue Reading »

Yet another….Chalkboard Project!

Well, if you know me at all you know that I love chalkboard paint.  What’s not to love.  It’s cheap, makes a big statement, and you can decorate it differently year round.  I bet your wondering, where in the world is she going to put it now?? or maybe not, but I’m going to show you anyway:) I’ve always loved this picture I found on Google… and of course that was my inspiration for the barrel shades…but it was also my inspiration for … Continue Reading »

Planked Fireplace

Remember way back when we first put the fireplace in and I had this inspiration picture from Better Homes and Gardens….   Sorry for the bad picture…it’s all I had:)  But..I loved everything about this fireplace.  The mantle, the planking, the big white trim.  I mean LOVE.  It would be in my category for dream fireplace.  At the time mine looked like this… I love looking back at old pictures, it reminds you so much of how things evolve!  So, here was my … Continue Reading »

How to turn a barrel shade into a pendant

Well, I gave you a sneak peek of what I’ve been doing around the house lately, and let me tell you, I’ve got a lot done.  But then I headed to my parents for the week and finally got on my computer today:)  So I thought I’d show you one of  the updates that I am loving. When we first gutted our house I was seeing so many pictures of people putting two lanterns over their tables and I loved it!  It was … Continue Reading »

1 Kitchen, 3 Ways

I’ve been enjoying a few blogs lately that have been having a 1 room, 3 ways party, and decided to join them! I thought this would be a fun post to show the evolution of our kitchen.  And also good to show you that a room doens’t usually come together all at once.  At least for me it doesn’t.  It ends up evolving.  Sometimes due to budget, sometimes due to my tastes changing, and mostly due to when inspiration strikes. So, here’s our … Continue Reading »

Egg Crate

Sometimes I like to shop Whimsy.  I love to see what all of my sisters bring, and they bring some really cool stuff.  This last sale I bought a few things, but my favorite purchase was my egg crate that my sister Mel had made. I put it under the island in my kitchen.  Here’s the picture of before… and after… I tweaked it a bit to make it fit my home, just by staining it with Minwax Weathered Oak. and I added some … Continue Reading »

Vintage Feed Sack Prints

I was doing my morning blog reading this morning and came across a very familiar look that I just couldn’t not share.  I have had so many people ask me where I got my vintage feed sack prints from in this picture… This picture was from my painting curtains post that you can find here….but I”m amazed how many people have asked if I made those prints in the background.  Although I wish I could take credit for them, I can’t.  I actually … Continue Reading »

My Favorite Flower…Bathroom Updates, and Weekend Fun!

Well, as you can tell this is going to be a smorgisboard of a blog.  I have been trying to be more diligent about blogging more frequently, but time seems to get away from me.  Whimsy is soon approaching again (our next sale is June 27th and 29th, you can find more here) and much of my time is spent crafting, cleaning, mothering, and digging in the dirt now that it’s nice:)  So I’m gonna fit a few things in this blog! First … Continue Reading »

My $6 Find

I had the handy hubby turn a dresser into a vanity when we moved into the house.  I had been loving taking regular furniture and incorporating it into a bathroom.  It makes it seem a little less “bathroom-y?” if that’s even a word:) Anyway, it ended up looking like this.. At the time I was deciding between a drop in sink and a vessel sink.  I think I ended up going with the vessel sink just because it was different.  I’ve never had … Continue Reading »
