I know that it is maybe a little controversial, but I covered up all of the shiplap in our living room and I'm not mad about it.
I may have went a little shiplap crazy 10 years ago when I covered almost every inch of our house with it. Although I still love it and want to leave it in our great room, I wanted a little something more formal in the living room. So in between projects outside of the home, I said this project was up next for me one rainy day!
I grabbed my tools I needed, nail gun and chow saw. I didn't use any glue just nailed in the current panel every so often after cutting by exact measurements with the chop saw.
I have learned that taking shiplap off is NOT FUN! and it can potentially damage the drywall underneath it. The beautiful thing about paneling you can go right over the shiplap! Which Is game changer.
That being said it did then make the paneling and trim flesh, and I wanted to make it a little chunky looking so I added a small pine wood stripe to break it up, that worked perfect around the windows and in-between the trim&fluting.
Now to painting! I went with Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. A tried-and-true favorite color of mine! The trim was already that color in the living room and I wanted it to all be one color, Revere Pewter won.
I used a brush to get in the cracks and rolled the face of the paneling. It took my about 3 hours to do 2 walls, it's a putsy job but the good news is it only took one coat, praise the lord!!
Also, Did you notice my pretty step ladder?! Lots of you caught that on my Instagram. I like to have one of these on hand, so why not make it pretty! It is very lightweight and folds open and close very nicely.
This fluted paneling is a little bit of a splurge, but wow does it elevate a space!! We had our $200 shiplap for 10 years as that was what our budget allowed at the time, I loved it for a years and I count that a big win! It has been so fun to add a few nicer finishes as we can now and I'm so happy with this fluting decision!!
Not only did this fluting give me a formal vibe, it also made the room feel so much taller and I didn't need to rip out any shiplap, Huge win all around for me!!
