TRANSITIONING A KID’S ROOM TO A TEEN BEDROOM
It’s time for another kids’ room refresh before school starts!
We wrapped up our oldest girl’s bedroom last month and this month we came back over to Tate’s room for a quick refresh on a small budget. I loved the look of this room, but as our kids get older, we do small updates to help keep up with their needs and give them a fresh start with a new way to use their space. Walmart is the perfect source for me to find high quality options on a budget that also fits the aesthetic I want for our home.
Tate’s room had a cool teepee , but as we move into a new school season, I wanted to give him his own dedicated space towork on projects or his presentations. A lot of times we school anywhere in the house, but there are times I know it will be good for him to have his own space to tinker with projects or focus on some tougher learning subjects. The desk I got for Tate’s room – and the other options I rounded up for you – are timeless options that will last through the years.
The desk I chose is modern but classic and offers some nice storage to keep the clutter to a minimum. I like the high contrast of the white against his dark accent wall and the warmth from the wood drawer fronts.
Here are a few other great options I think will grow along with your kids’ style and needs. If you go with an open desk option with no storage, I like this bookcase to hold books and supplies nearby.
I chose a neutral colored desk chair and like the look of aclean-lined chair that doesn’t scream office chair. In the end, they just need a comfortable chair, but if it can fit into our home’s design, I know I won’t feel the need to replace it for years.Here’s another handsome option that is a great price and you get two (for the price of one!). It’s not a desk specific option, but I like that it would be comfortable for a teenager to work and can be used elsewhere in the house when needed.
Adding a few more functional pieces and acouple pieces forstyling and the space is all set for me. For Tate’s desktopI added a little lamp for function (but how cool is that little lamp?!) and the focal point is themap we had already hanging.Here are afew options to hang over yourteen’s workspace that will teach a few things and look good doing it. Maybe that should be our homeschool motto, too. Thislab chart is neat and fun intro to chemistry. I found thesemaps that have a similar feel to the one we have. They would look great framed in poster frame or even sandwiching a few 1x2s around the print as a quick and inexpensive DIY frame.
You may be homeschooling, some are distance-learning, some are hybrid and some STILL don’t know what their district is going to do this year. So, no matter what timeline you’re on Walmart makes it easy torefresh your home with a few options to get the items you need quickly – In-Store, Delivery, or Pick-Up Today. I love when I get the itch to knock a project out and can run over and pick it up when they have it in my local store.
