A Simple Spring Mantel

I thought I’d give you a peek at what my mantel looks like lately.  I seem to switch up my mantel more than anything else, for some reason I get sick of it quite quickly.

Although I change it up a lot, I keep a lot of the same pieces.  Mantle decorating can get expensive, so I tend to keep my favorite neutral pieces and pull them in for every season.

I saw this mirror at Ballard Designs  and fell in love…

But at $379, it wasn’t an option.  So, my solution was a DIY wood lath sunburst mirror.

Definitely not as cool, but hey, it only cost about $10 and a few blood blisters from hitting myself with the hammer.  Ouch.

It’s huge though, and makes a statement.

add in my trademark white dishes…

A rustic antler pop for the hubby….

and a few greens…

and you have a fresh, spring-y mantel.

A cheap trick to finding white pitchers is to go to Goodwill and buy the ugly ones with a pattern on.  As long as there is no raised parts on the pitcher, you can spray it without anyone knowing.  Trust me, that little cutie used to be mauve and blue with hearts.  But she only set me back 49 cents.

Bam.

I’m loving having real greens in my house.  I decided it worth it to spend a little bit more for live, oxygen purifying flowers and plants:)

I love them so much I just had to share a couple pics of the tulips I picked from our garden…

Mason jars make great vases:)

They make me smile every time I see them:)

The Oaks final outdoor reveal
By Allie Lundeen August 14, 2025
I pulled off the biggest surprise I've ever done... I can't believe it!! So a little back story - 17 years ago Ryan sold his prized possession, his 1991 Mazda Miata, to help fund a much needed mini van for our baby on the way. After I got pregnant I quit my job and we went from 2 incomes down to 1 income. We knew that a 2 person convertible just wasn't practical and that the finances could be used in a better way. So we sold it... Fast forward 17 years and it all comes back full circle. I put my 17 year old son Tate on the task of finding us a Miata that looked just like dads, and he blew it out of the water. He found the perfect car on Facebook Marketplace In great condition! He drove almost 3 hours to pick it up with a buddy and pulled off the best surprise ever!!! Also to note Tate has never driven through the Twin Cities or Driven a stick shift on any road besides a gravel one close to the cabin. BUT he was confident and crushed the challenge!! We stored it for the night and gave it to him the next day! I think Ryan's reaction says it all (watch the mini vlog below!) Our "19th" anniversary isn't until November but what fun is a convertible if you can't drive it in the summer, so we gave it to him early and are so happy we did! *make sure to read until the end for a good laugh ;)
