If you know me or have been here for a while, you know my love for spray painting windows black!! It is a weakness of mine, there is something of about the black that has my heart...
That being said I get asked multiple times a week "How do you paint them" "What products do you use?" etc.
So, while I'm currently painting all of the windows (and garage door) out at the new Fixer Upper, I thought let me show all my friends online how I execute that very project.
LET'S GO PAINT SOME WINDOWS BLACK!!
This is what we are starting with.
First things first I pressured washed everything to get any residue off of the frame of the windows.
After that is done, use whatever you would like to protect the window glass and the siding on all sides, top and bottom. This is actually the most time-consuming part!! And my least favorite part to do. But it needs to most definitely be done especially for the certain spray paint cans that spray more than others.
Tip! - I found a new product that is game changer! This Painters Tape and Plastic all in one. It rolls out and you can tape/tape the plastic all at the same time!! How cool... I found this product AFTER doing these windows, but you best believe I bought quite a few of these and will be using from here on out...
I use the RUST-OLEUM Semi-Gloss Protective Enamel. These windows are metal so this will help with the rust. All of the exterior windows are metal or covered with a clad, but I will use the same product inside on the wood windows too!
The spraying part is so fun!! It only took 15 minutes to do these 4 windows...
I find to avoid as many drips as possible, I do one continuous coat and then come back 10 minutes later and do another one with areas I missed.
*For all my perfectionist friends, please note that there may be drips!! That is the most likely bound to happen in a DIY. But don't sweat I!
For us non perfectionist, all is well as long as it's pretty and how we want it right!?
One of the most exciting part for me is adding this extra accessory. I use this automotive molding to add faux grids to the windows. It's such an easy task. All you have to do is measure with a tape measure finding the enter of the window and making sure it's straight all the way down. Then you stick It on. Ta da!! Easy as that and you have windows with grids!
2 cans of spray paint for a total of $12, I now have brand new windows!!! Optional to add the automotive molding to add a grid!
I will never get over the magic of paint. Seriously it is mind blowing....
NOW, LET'S PAINT A GARAGE DOOR BLACK!!
Again, the very first step is pressure washing the entire face of the garage door...
I use exterior paint and I painted it in the color Onxy by Benjamin Moore.
We have all been told to not paint garage doors, lol. I am very well aware of that!! I personally have painted 3 different ones and they have had no warping, so I think I'm good!!
I also had a few different DMs of people's testimonies on painting their garage doors -

Those odds are good enough for me!! So, I'll keep doing this to old garage doors until I find a reason not too!
Why I am shocked every time how simple but dramatic a paint transformation can be?! It makes me so happy every time with my choice to give something a fresh look with a coat of paint! You may love it too if you give it a try;)
I also made a last minute decision that I was going to paint the facia and soffit on the house and garage! I wasn't able to complete some areas before the cold weather rolled in but I want to show you how I did the front of the house!
You can imagine the steps by now I'm sure HEHE! Tape off the surrounding areas before painting. I use the exact same paint I used for the garage door, the only thing that I did different was use a paint sprayer. This is my trusty best friends that I have used on countless painting projects and works amazing!
*Tip make sure you clean your paint sprayer REALLY good after using so no paint is left to dry when it sits.
WOAH!! I loooove... Why have I never painted facia and soffit before?!
Do you get my love for paint and the transformation it can bring to life now!? Don't hesitate it is just paint, take the risk and paint those windows or garage doors. I don't think you will regret it;)
