Our Cabin Story
This little cabin is not far from home, but was a dream to be able to purchase for our family. The cabin is a place where we can slow down and live simply. Focus on family and relaxing. I’m convinced you can carve out little areas in your own home that will encourage you to do the same.
I share some favorites here, but it’s focusing on quality time with family that truly makes your place a retreat.
At the cabin we wanted unfussy finishes, comfortable fabrics and plenty of seating for our family and friends to stretch out even with the smaller footprint of a cottage. I chose fabrics with neutral tones (as usual) that would wash well even with sandy, dirty kiddos coming in from our little beach and playing in the yard. The styling is complete with white pottery, natural fiber baskets, special walnut wood tones and touches of black to ground the room.

LIVING ROOM
Bunk Room
BEDDING: Swapped for Beddy’s. I love these for the bunks. Beddy’s make the bunk beds look great at all times without the workout of making their beds!
Every kid loves a bunk room, right?! This is such a great way to make a private bedroom even in the smallest of areas. This space actually used to be the kitchen area before we built the new kitchen. This space even has storage – proving no matter how small your place is it can be functional and good-looking.
I added a sconce over each bed with the (magic light trick!) and paired that with the pipe guardrails we built. The rails are spray painted flat black. Ryan did a great job building this bunk out and I had fun painting and decking it out so the kids could crash after a day of play at the cabin.
The bunk room is another great before and after to check out. We redefined the space – as in, ripped everything out that was here!
