The very last step in Sweet Caroline is COMPLETE!!! Can you believe it, I cant but I am excited that she is done and ready for to get moved to her permanent location at the lake lot....once the snow melts of course!
Before
We started with building the frame/cabinets. I wanted the countertop to be below the window, so we measured accordingly.
It is a bit tricky to level things in the camper LOL but Ryan did a good job putting this all together!
I stained the countertop myself. My trusty and favorite mixture half water and half paint. I use Revere Pewter for my paint color. On butcher block. Butcher block is the cheaper option that we can fabricate ourselves. Mindless projects like staining this countertop are my favorite! Then I finished with the stain, Special Walnut first, Dark Walnut next...
If you want to see exactly how I do this, it is the same process I use for the color of our Great Room Beams.
The countertops turned out so pretty! I love how it brings in some warmth and matches the beams!!
I used pine boards ripped down to cover the base... I was debating if I wanted the cabinets to be the same color as the walls or a couple of shades darker. I decided on darker!!
The doors we used plywood with a smooth finish I would call it. We have never made our own cabinet doors but why not try. We cut them into the correct size first, and then dressed them up later!
For the face of the doors I got this oak trim at Menards and I used it to frame out the doors first.
For the details on the doors, I did a couple different things to add some character!
My inspiration I saw on Pinterest and I wanted to do these so called "Ventilation Holes". Which I did very easily once measured out to the exact sizing I envisioned. Super easy to drill right through when you have your template.
The other way I dressed them up is by actually disguising one of the doors as drawers. I used some trim I had left over to make a little face treatment where the pulls will go, and it gave it the illusion that there are drawers. Way less work with lots more character!
I put this wood veneer edgeing and put it along the edges to marry the trim and the plywood to make is smooth together. Its pre glued so when you iron it on it sticks nicely. Then I sanded everything at the very end before paint to make sure its nice and smooth!
Then I assembled them back in the camper, put on one more coat and touched up the paint, now she is all set!!
After
When deciding on coloring I wasn't sure if I wanted something a couple shades darker than the Storms Coming wall color or if I wanted it to match.. I ended up going with the darker shade called "Stonehenge Griege" by Pittsburg. The color is a little bit more mushroomy. I love it!!
The cabinet hardware is a beautiful aged brass color off of Amazon! The bar pulls and the knobs each come in a six pack for a reasonable price...
I had originally had this idea in my head months ago to do a hanging cafe bar underneath the floating shelf to create a little coffee bar!
Well I couldn't wait for Caroline to be done so I did one in my kitchen in the house and LOVE IT! I shared all of the sources and names of things on that blog post. The can be viewed HERE if you have questions on the cafe bar/cooks
Ryan built a small little spot for this adorable little vintage fridge to go, how cute is it!! This was the first thing I got for the kitchen an we worked around it so it would have a home here.
Thanks so much for following along as we transformed this vintage camper. It's always bittersweet finishing because it turns into my baby:) I'm so proud of how she turned out and you were the greatest cheerleaders throughout the process! Stay tuned for more fun reels of before and afters coming to my IG at @proverbsthirtyonegirl.
